Poster Requirements, Design, and Printing Tips

The Children's National Research, Education and Innovation Week Committee recognizes that some submissions may be specifically generated for this event while others may have been prepared for other previous or future events outside of Children's National. For this reason, the poster sessions held at Children’s National do not have exact requirements of style and intended audience. However, we do strongly urge that the following quality guidelines be followed:

All posters must follow the guidelines of the Children’s National brand guide. This is located on the branding website at www.ChildrensBrand.org
Size: The standard size for posters is 4ft x 4ft.
Templates: There is a 4ft x 4ft wide template on the www.ChildrensBrand.org website which allows for varying layouts, colors and fonts while maintaining the integrity of the brand. To locate this template, select the “Downloads” menu option and click “Research posters”. You may design your poster in whatever program you are most familiar with as long as you comply with the branding guidelines that are established and posted on that site and highlighted within this email.
Changing the size of a PowerPoint template that has the logo embedded will change the aspect ratio of the logo causing it to be distorted. If you must change the size of a template, please do so proportionately. If you need help, please do not hesitate to contact the PR & Marketing department to insert the correct logo into your presentation.
Font: Museo is the primary brand font for Children’s National. Our brand font utilizes two weights of Museo; 300 and 700. These two weights are preferred for all print and digital communications. Museo 300 can be used in all caps or upper-lower case for both headlines and body copy. Museo 700 can be used in all caps or upper-lower case for headlines, body copy, and body copy accents. If you do not have Museo loaded on your computer, you can use our secondary font, Corbel in any of three weights: regular, bold, and italic. Corbel is also recommended as a secondary font for digital presentations (e.g., PowerPoint and internal communications).
Color Palette: Every effort should be made to ensure that whenever the primary color palette is used, it is dominant over other colors and palettes. Tints of these colors may be used as long as they don’t make up more than 25 percent of the area where they are being used. Below are the official colors for Children’s National:

After you have received a notification that your abstract submission has been accepted, it’s time to create your poster. All participants are responsible for creating their own posters with the guidelines below.

During Research, Education and Innovation Week, each poster board will be pre-set up to display two posters. If you are displaying your poster at another event with different sizing requirements, it is essential that you notify researchweek@childrensnational.org by Thursday, March 1, 2018. We cannot guarantee that large posters can be accommodated. Our team will plan that your poster size will be 4 ft. by 4 ft. unless we are otherwise notified.

Design

All participants of Research, Education and Innovation Week are responsible for printing their posters.

Poster Sessions

You will receive a notification about which date you are responsible for hanging up your poster for poster sessions. This year, poster sessions will be held from Monday, April 16 through Wednesday, April 18. Please review the information below for detailed instructions on how you should prepare for poster sessions.

Check-in will begin at 8:00am in the Main Atrium. There will be a check-in desk located on the stage where you can retrieve your poster ID number, event t-shirt, and help for hanging your poster (push pins, Velcro, etc).
Posters should be hung no later than 10:00am.
Posters will be hung in numerical order in designated spaces. There will also be a sign on the poster board with your poster ID and title. Each row of poster boards will indicate which numbers should be hung on that row to help you find your designated space.
We ask that presenters and/or a representative stand with their posters between 1:00pm – 3:00pm on the day of their session to discuss your work with colleagues and participants.
Because poster sessions will be held for three consecutive days, you must retrieve your poster on the day of your session no later than 4:00pm so that setup for the next day can begin.
Notifications will be sent via email on Wednesday evening (April 18) about the highest scored posters. Winners will be revealed at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday (April 19).
